Olha Bohomolez ( Ukrainian О́льга Богомо́лець ; born March 22, 1966 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian doctor and politician. In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2014 on October 26th, she was elected from the Petro Poroshenko bloc as a member of the Verkhovna Rada .

origin

Olha Bohomolez was born into a family of doctors who came from the Chernihiv branch of the Lithuanian-Ruthenian noble family. Her great-great-grandmother was the Ukrainian revolutionary Narodniki Sofija Bohomolez (1856-1892), who died while imprisoned in Siberia. Their son, the great-grandfather of Olha Bohomolez, was the Ukrainian pathophysiologist Oleksandr Bohomolez (1881-1946), president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences , director of the Physiological Institute in Kiev and, among other things, developer of anti-reticular cytotoxic serum . Her father, Vadym Jakymowytsch Berezovskyj, is a professor at the National Medical Institute Oleksandr Bohomolets.

education

She studied medicine at the Kiev Medical Institute (now the National Medical Institute Oleksandr Bohomolets). From 1989 to 1991 she expanded her knowledge at the Ukrainian State Institute for Advanced Training for Doctors and continued her studies from 1993 to 1994 in the United States at the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania and with A. Bernard Ackerman at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia .

Professional career

After her return, she founded the clinic in Kiev laser medicine , which the Institute of Dermatology and Cosmetology has been expanded and is their property. She was appointed professor and head of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the National Medical University "Oleksandr Bohomolez".

Olha Bohomolez wrote over seventy scientific papers and received nine patents in the field of skin diseases.

From 2004 to 2005 she was the personal physician of the then President Viktor Yushchenko .

Political commitment

Olha Bohomolez became Deputy of the Kiev City Council from 2005 to 2008 through her membership in the Our Ukraine block .

Maidan protests

She took an active part in the Euromaidan uprising in Kiev and, as head of a coordination center, took care of the numerous injured in the Maidan. According to her own statements, 12 people died in her arms alone. She made several statements on the civilians and military officers murdered by snipers on the Maidan Nesaleschnosti on February 20 and 21, 2014, and called for a full forensic criminal investigation into these deaths. It encouraged international experts and Ukrainian investigators to use ammunition and ballistics to analyze what kind of weapons the multitude of snipers used.

2014 presidential candidacy

On February 27, 2014, she announced her intention to run in Ukraine's presidential election on May 25, 2014 . She received 1.9% of the vote.

General election 2014

In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2014 , she came third on the list for the Petro Poroshenko party .

On September 30, 2011, Bohomolez opened a museum of Ukrainian house icons , which she donated, in the town of Radomyshl, about 100 kilometers west of Kiev ( Zhytomyr Oblast ). It contains their collection of icons created by folk and professional icon painters from all over Ukraine, which Bohomolez had been putting together since 1996 and partially restored. The collection is located in a former paper mill that was extensively converted into the so-called Radomyschl Castle .

Private

Olha Bohomolez is a divorced mother of four. She is also active as a singer and songwriter, has participated in several singing competitions in Ukraine and abroad, and has released five CDs. She donated the fees for her numerous vocal concerts to charity.
