Oliver Clay (born August 28, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German basketball player . He has been playing for SBB Baskets Wolmirstedt since summer 2020 .

Career

Clay comes from the youth work of the former second division club BG Zehlendorf . In 2006 he switched to the joint youth program of first division club Alba Berlin and TuS Lichterfelde. He then played for TuSLi in the second division and for Alba in the youth basketball league . In the following season 2007/08 the TuSLi rose from the newly created ProB and Clay, who had outgrown the NBBL team in age, moved to Alba's second team in the regional league. In the following two seasons he was also on the squad of Alba's first team in the BBL, but was not used in any championship game. In 2010 he rose with Alba's second team from the regional league to the ProB.

His former NBBL trainer Henrik Rödl took over the coaching position at the TBB in Trier for the 2010/11 season and brought his former protégé Clay into the Trier Bundesliga team. At the TBB he was then also regularly used in the BBL. For the 2011/12 BBL season , Clay was looking for a new challenge with the first division promoted s.Oliver Baskets from Würzburg. After making the leap into the play-offs for the championship in the first season , in which you could eliminate your former club ALBA in the first round and only eliminated in the semifinals, succeeded in the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 one season later no longer the entry into the round of the best eight teams. For the 2013/14 season, Clay signed a contract with MBC from Weißenfels, who had been promoted from the previous year .

After his contract in Weißenfels expired, Clay moved to Science City Jena in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . In the 2015/16 season he was promoted to the Bundesliga as ProA champion with Jena. He contributed an average of seven points and 5.1 rebounds per game to this success in 38 missions. In the Bundesliga, Clay was on the field for the Thuringians for two years before he was signed by ProA newcomer Rostock Seawolves in June 2018  . During the summer break of 2019, his two-year contract with the Mecklenburgers was terminated after he was only able to partially meet the expectations of the team officials in Rostock. Clay came in 27 main round operations for the team on 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. At the beginning of August 2019 he was announced as a new addition by the first division relegated Eisbären Bremerhaven . The second division season ended prematurely in mid-March 2020 due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus . At that time, Clay was second in the table with the polar bears, which is why they were awarded the right to promotion to the Bundesliga. He achieved an average of 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds for the polar bears during the season.

During the summer break of 2020 he was signed by the regional league team SBB Baskets Wolmirstedt .
