Oliver Roth (born January 30, 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Roth played in his youth at FSV Bergen and at the age of ten he moved to FSV Frankfurt , for whom he made his debut in the Oberliga Hessen as a 17-year-old . At FSV, he developed into a goalscorer over the next three years, whereupon Roth received a professional contract with Borussia Dortmund in 1988 . There he came in the 1988/89 season , in which Dortmund won the DFB Cup under Horst Köppel , but only for a single Bundesliga appearance .

Roth, who had also completed vocational training as an industrial clerk, then returned to Frankfurt, where he received a contract with the upper division club Rot-Weiss Frankfurt . The club president there, Wolfgang Steubing, was also the owner of a stockbroker's office and put Roth in the position of being able to do sport and work side by side by being employed in his company. At the end of the 1989/90 round, the team coached by Dragoslav Stepanović and their new striker Oliver Roth became Hessian champions, but missed the hoped-for leap into the 2nd Bundesliga in the promotion round. In 1995, Roth left the club and job and enrolled at the University of Birmingham in the US state of Alabama , where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration . During this time he played with the Birmingham Panthers.

After his return to Germany, he took a job as a securities dealer at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange , and he was signed by Klaus Gerster , the manager of the Offenbacher Kickers , who were playing in the Oberliga Hessen at the time . With 16 goals in the 1998/99 regional league season and the winning goal in the relegation game at VfL Osnabrück , Roth played a key role in the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . In the following season he came to 22 professional appearances and scored two goals. Roth ended his career at the end of the season. The OFC, who had been relegated to the regional league, brought Roth back as a coach (together with Dieter Müller ) at short notice after six months . Roth then worked there as a manager .

In 2006 Roth was hired by the private broadcaster rheinmaintv as a reporter for the fan magazine Kickers Magazin , which is broadcast every two weeks . The show was later discontinued.

Roth, who is now the chief trader on the stock exchange, has become a frequent interview partner for international media coverage of stock market events in recent years.
