Oliver Spasovski ( Macedonian Оливер Спасовски ; born October 21, 1976 in Kumanovo , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a North Macedonian politician ( SDSM ) and was Prime Minister of his country from January 3, 2020 to August 30, 2020 .

Life

Oliver Spasovski studied law at the University of Skopje and then worked as a lawyer . From 2001 to 2005 he was an advisor to the mayor of the Kumanovo municipality, and from 2008 to 2011 he held a managerial position in the Kumanovo municipal administration.

From 2006 to 2008, 2011 to 2014 and 2016 to 2017 he was a member of the North Macedonian parliament . From 2013 to 2017 he was Secretary General of the SDSM. He held the office of Minister of the Interior three times, namely from November 2015 to May 2016, September 2016 to December 2016 and May 2017 to January 2020.

After the resignation of Zoran Zaev , Spasovski became Prime Minister of North Macedonia on January 3, 2020. He should lead a transitional government until the early parliamentary elections on April 12, 2020. The background to this is the rejection of the start of EU accession negotiations by the European Union , although the country has met the requirements stipulated by the EU by renaming it to North Macedonia .
