action

This version of Oliver Twist begins with Oliver's dying mother. The child lies in the cradle and the mother lets the baby be put in her arms one last time and dies. After his mother dies, Oliver is taken to an orphanage. Years later, Oliver is sent to work for the Sowerberrys. He breaks out there and runs to London for seven days . There he made the acquaintance of The Artful Dodger on the street, who brought him to Fagin's gang. He gets food there, but falls asleep at the table the first time he is completely tired. The boy quickly feels at home. For the first time people are taking care of him. Fagin introduces him to the art of pickpocketing. It's a fun game for Oliver. On the first theft train with the gang through town, Oliver is caught by Mr. Brownlow. However, the nice gentleman takes him home with him, where he immediately feels at home. Mr. Brownlow and his niece Rose Maylie take care of him and Mr. Brownlow recognizes in Oliver the resemblance to Rose's deceased cousin. When Brownlow trustingly sends Oliver to the bookseller with books and lots of money, Nancy Sikes meets him on the street and brings him back to Fagin. But Nancy feels sorry for the boy and brings books and money back to Rose and tells Mr. Brownlow's niece about the boy's whereabouts.

Bill Sikes and Fagin now use Oliver to break into Mr. Brownlow's house. Oliver is shot during the break-in and stays with Brownlow and Rose. Sikes and Fagin are now planning to kill Oliver. Nancy reveals this to Rose and Mr. Brownlow, but is overheard by Artful Dodger, who reveals this to Fagin. Sikes then kills Nancy and is now wanted as a murderer. He is found in Fagin's lair and hangs himself out of fear of the mob. The gang ends up in jail. Mr. Brownlow visits Fagin there one last time; shortly before his execution. Oliver can now stay with Mr. Brownlow forever.
