Life

Barbara Kent was born as Barbara Cloutman. In 1925 she became Miss Hollywood Pageant and began her career in Hollywood at Universal Studios that same year . The only five-foot-tall, brunette actress quickly became popular in comic roles, but also played an unhappily in love teenager in Clarence Brown's film drama It Was (1926) alongside Greta Garbo .

Her 1927 film No Man's Law attracted attention , in which she appeared to be seen swimming naked - in fact, she was wearing a skin-colored bathing suit. Because of her popularity, she was selected as one of the " WAMPAS Baby Stars " of 1927 by the Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers . A highlight of her career was the film drama Two Young Hearts by Paul Fejos , which is now considered one of the last great American silent films. She received critical acclaim for her role as Rose Maylie in the first sound film version of Oliver Twist from 1933.

In 1932 she married agent and producer Harry E. Edington and put her career on hold. However, she did not manage to return to work and she played her last film role in 1935. After the death of her husband in 1949, she withdrew from the public and has since refused any request for an interview.
