Oliver Wehner (born July 7, 1984 in Pirna ) is a German politician ( CDU ). Between 2009 and 2019 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament and spokesman for health policy for the CDU parliamentary group. From 2016 to 2019 he was chairman of the study commission “Ensuring the supply and further development of quality in the care of older people in the Free State of Saxony”.

Life

After graduating from high school in 2003 at the Johann-Gottfried-Herder Gymnasium in Pirna and doing civilian service at Johanniter-Unfallhilfe , Wehner completed a three-year commercial training course ( IHK ) at the Deutsche Beamtenkasse in 2004 and then worked there as a commercial employee. From 2007 Wehner studied at the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden) with a major in political science and a minor in sociology and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts .

After ten years in parliament as a member of parliament, Oliver Wehner switched to the health industry in 2020. He took on a management position at the Celenus clinics.

Oliver Wehner joined the Junge Union and the CDU in 2005 . From 2006 he accompanied various board positions in the associations. In the meantime he leads the CDU Stadtverband Pirna as chairman.

In the state elections in 2009 he was the top candidate of the Junge Union Sachsen & Lower Silesia and won the direct mandate in the constituency of Saxon Switzerland 1 (constituency 49) with 36.7% of the first votes. He became a member of the committee for social affairs, health, family, youth, senior citizens and consumer protection, in the state youth welfare committee and in the petitions committee of the Saxon state parliament. In addition, he became a member of the “Waste Abuse Enquette” committee.

In the municipal elections in Saxony in 2014 , Wehner was elected to the district council of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. As a district councilor, he is a member of the Social Committee.

In August 2014 Wehner was in the state election in the renamed constituency Saxon Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains 3 elected (constituency 50) with 37.3% of the primary vote again directly into the state parliament. He was deputy chairman of the committee for social health, family, youth, senior citizens and consumer protection and health policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. He was also a member of the Petitions Committee.

From January 20, 2016, Oliver Wehner was chairman of the three-year study commission “Ensuring supply and further development of quality in care for older people in the Free State of Saxony”. As chairman of the study commission, in 2018 he advocated a generally binding, nationwide collective bargaining agreement for all nursing staff and received encouragement from nursing insurance funds for this approach. In order to reduce the residents' own financial contributions in nursing homes, Wehner asked the Saxon state government in 2019 to examine the introduction of a nursing home allowance. In 2018, Wehner called for strictly controlled immigration and immigration for people willing to work in the wake of the increased need for skilled workers in the care industry.

Wehner was a member of the Parliamentary Forum Central and Eastern Europe eV, a non-partisan association of Saxon parliamentarians and leaders from business and society, which promotes cooperation between Saxon as well as Central and Eastern European actors from politics and administration, with the aim of business, science and culture and to support social developments.

Politically, Wehner is assigned to the conservative wing of the CDU. In 2018 he spoke out in favor of the conservative-economically liberal candidate Friedrich Merz when he was elected CDU federal chairman.

Wehner is also chairman of the German Red Cross (DRK) in the Pirna district association and chairman of the supervisory board of the social services gGmbH of the DRK.

At Helios Klinikum Pirna GmbH, he has been a consultant on the clinic advisory board since 2014.

Oliver Wehner is married. He is of the Roman Catholic denomination.
