Antonella Manzoni (born July 9, 1980 in Bellano ) is an Italian grass skier . The nine-time Italian champion belongs to the national team of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI). So far she has won two world cup races and four medals at world championships .

Career

Manzoni achieved her first international success at the Junior World Championships in 1997 in Müstair , where she won the bronze medal in the Super-G. In the same year, also in Müstair, she took part in a world championship in the general class for the first time, finishing twelfth in the Super-G and 13th in the giant slalom. At the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Nakoyama , Japan , she won the silver medal in the Super-G. In 2001 she just missed the medal ranks at the World Championships in Forni di Sopra with fourth place in the slalom. At the Italian championships in 2003 in Lanzo d'Intelvi , she won all four competitions. In the following three years she was able to win another five Italian championship titles.

In the World Cup , Manzoni came third in the giant slalom in Nové Město na Moravě and another two top 10 results in the 2003 season for the first time among the top ten in the overall standings. In the next two years she was also among the top ten in the overall World Cup with several podium places. At the 2005 World Championships in Dizin , Iran , she won the silver medal in giant slalom behind the Austrian Ingrid Hirschhofer . She was fourth in the Super-G, tenth in the slalom and ninth in the combination.

In the 2006 World Cup season, the Italian was not on the podium, but with fourth place in the giant slalom in České Petrovice and another three top 10 results, she reached sixth place in the final ranking and thus her best result in the overall World Cup. In the 2007 season Manzoni celebrated two victories in the giant slalom and in the Super-G in Dizin and in the overall standings she finished seventh. At the 2007 World Cup she won the bronze medal in the Super-G; in the super combination she took eighth place at the same time as the German Anna-Lena Büdenbender . She only achieved two results (ninth place in the super combination of Rettenbach and fifth place in the giant slalom in Čenkovice ) in the 2008 World Cup season , which is why she dropped to eleventh place in the overall ranking. In the 2009 season , Manzoni came ninth in the overall World Cup with two podium places in the super combined from Wilhelmsburg and in the giant slalom from Dizin . At the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach, she won the silver medal in the Super-G and bronze in the giant slalom. She came fourth in the super combination.

In the 2010 season Manzoni reached a podium in the World Cup, second place in Dizin's Super-G, and was tenth in the overall standings. She also achieved a podium position (third place in the first giant slalom in San Sicario ) and again tenth place overall in the 2011 season . She stayed without a podium at the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen . With fourth place in the Super-G and in the Super Combined, she narrowly missed the medal ranks twice. In the slalom, she was eighth, while she was eliminated in the giant slalom in the second round. In 2012 Manzoni did not contest any competitions.

From 1996 to 2002 Manzoni also took part in FIS races and the Italian championships in alpine skiing , but only made it into the top 30 three times.
