Olof Gyllenborg
Count Olof Gyllenborg (born August 21, 1676 in Stockholm , † May 28, 1737 in Nyköping ) was a Swedish politician and poet .
Life
Olof Gyllenborg was the eldest son of the Swedish count and politician Jakob Gyllenborg and brother of the statesman Carl Gyllenborg . He studied at Uppsala University and was rector illustris there in 1696 . 1696–98 he attended lectures at foreign universities, for example in Paris , where he got into serious debt. In 1698 he was appointed royal chamberlain and in 1712 judge of Västergötland . In 1718 he administered the Arboga län, but withdrew to Västergötland the next year. In 1725 he became governor of Älvsborgs län and finally, in 1733, chief magistrate in Nyköping, where he died in 1737 at the age of 60.
Gyllenbörg tried his hand at fine literature and left behind various poems and songs that are contained in Carl Carlesons and Abraham Magni Sahlstedt's collections, as well as the new, more complete Per Hansellis . These are generally characterized by a pleasing verse structure and an amiable genius. He is also said to have written love poems to the king's widowed sister, Hedwig Sophia von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf . The taste of the times for moral-satirical joke papers finally seduced him after the discontinuation of Then Swänska Argus ("The Swedish Argus") published by Olof von Dalin , in 1735 a new similar magazine Skuggan af den döda Argus ("Shadow of the dead Argus") issued monthly. But compared to its famous predecessor, his work remained very weak and meaningless. Gyllenborg's delicate lyrical nature did not lend itself to the didactic punishment necessary for such an undertaking, nor could his ideal creative urge, which came from the innermost heart, sink into mere external pain. He also published En gudfruktig och en ogudaktig menniskas olika tankar om evigheten ("A godly and godless man's unequal thoughts about eternity", 1709).
