Olof Johan Södermark (born May 17, 1790 in Landskrona , † October 15, 1848 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish lieutenant colonel in the army , painter , graphic artist and sculptor .

Life

He was married to Maria Charlotte Hazelius. After his participation as a staff officer in the Swedish Army in the Norwegian War in 1814, he was able to devote himself to his artistic activities in the following years. In the 1820s he spent some time in the Villa Malta in Rome , from 1825 to 1827 owned by his friend, the Swedish sculptor Johan Niklas Byström .

Södermark is mainly known as a portrait painter. He was married to Maria Charlotta (née Hazelius) since 1817. Their son was the portrait painter Per Södermark .
