Olympia (Helsingborg)
Olympia is a district of the Swedish city of Helsingborg . It is located in the city district of the same name, which has around 1,850 inhabitants.
The neighborhood was built in the 1890s along Olympiavägen . At that time the area was not included in the urban development plan. Since the builders did not have to have their plans approved, Olympia was built extremely tightly, with open spaces that were below the permitted dimensions. Most of the houses were patrician villas of various styles, but mainly in the neo-renaissance and art nouveau styles . Since all the houses have bird names, the area is also known as Fågelkvarteren .
Traces of old fortifications can still be seen in the streetscape today . B. in the streets Kopparmöllegatan , S: t Pedersgatan and Östra vallgatan .
Compared to other parts of the city, Olympia has a high density of schools and sports facilities. Among the latter are the Olympia football stadium with the adjacent sports park and the Olympiarink ice hockey arena . The schools are the Olympiaskolan , the Tycho Braheskolan , the Nicolaiskolan , the Slottsvångsskolan and the Petri vårdgymnasium . There is also a hospital in Olympia ( Helsingborgs lasarett ).
