The 20 km race at the 1908 Olympic Games in London took place on 14 July at the stage White City instead.

Each nation was entitled to up to 12 starting places. Each race consisted of just over 33 laps of the 660 yard long track. The time limit for the race was 40 minutes. The competition took place in two rounds (semifinals and finals). There were 6 semi-finals. The winner of each semi-final reached the final. In addition, the three athletes who could not win their race but won most of the laps qualified for the final.

With nine laps to go, Léon Couckelberg had a broken tire. Two laps further, the Belgian was unlucky again, he left the track, crossed the grass, got on a new bike and drove on, but was disqualified in this regard.

Leon Meredith and Arthur J. Denny broke down early in the race. Andrew Hansson fell towards the end of the race. When the bell rang for the final lap, Clarence Kingsbury started his sprint and was able to hold his own against the other three drivers.
