South Africa participated in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London , United Kingdom , with a delegation of 14 athletes (all men) in 15 competitions in four sports. Two medals (one gold and one silver each) could be won. The youngest athlete was the sprinter Reggie Walker (19 years and 126 days), the oldest athlete was the fencer Walter Gates (37 years and 46 days). It was the country's second participation in the Summer Olympics after the 1904 Summer Olympics . The standard bearer was athlete Doug Stupart.
