There were three jumps each from the 4-meter, 8-meter and 12-meter board, which were rated by the judges with a maximum of 20 points. The total number of points resulted from the mean of all jumps. Olympic champion Gottlob Walz only dared himself and no one else. So he took his own six-meter-long springboard with him on the journey by train in order to jump on it in Athens.
