Omar Abboud

Omar Abboud (born 1966 ) is a contemporary figure of Islam in Argentina of Syrian-Lebanese origin. He is the director of the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue ( Instituto del Dialog ) in Buenos Aires, founded in 2001 by Rabbi Daniel Goldam, Father Guillermo Marcó (the former spokesman for the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires ) and Jorge Mario Bergoglio (later Pope Francis) . He was general secretary of the Islamic Center of Argentina. He also worked in the slums of Buenos Aires. Rabbis Abraham Skorka and Omar Abboud accompanied Pope Francis on his journey to the Holy Land . Omar Abboud was one of the members of the Muslim delegation at the 3rd seminar of the Catholic-Muslim Forum . He was one of the signatories of the open letter to al-Baghdadi and ISIS .

Omar Abboud is the grandson of Ahmed Hasan Abboud , the first Muslim to translate the Koran from Arabic into Spanish.
