Omar Awadhy (also Omar Alawadhi ; born January 16, 1982 in Dubai ) is a tennis player from the United Arab Emirates .

Career

Omar Awadhy first played in professional tournaments in 2001. He got a wildcard for the tournament in ATP Dubai , where he was defeated by the Romanian Andrei Pavel . Throughout his entire career, Awadhy benefited from further wildcards at tournaments in Dubai and Doha in singles and doubles, but where he never managed to win at least one set. Apart from the tournaments of the ATP World Tour , the Emirati only played tournaments on the lower class ITF Future Tour , where he could only reach the semi-finals. In his career he was still able to earn prize money of around 150,000 US dollars, as money is also paid out in the World Tour tournaments when eliminated in the first round. In the world rankings , he reached 805th place in July 2003, his best placement in singles and 1005th in doubles.

Awadhy is the record player for the Davis Cup team of the United Arab Emirates with a record of 93:45 - by a large margin ahead of Mahmoud-Nader Al Baloushi (40:54). From 1996 he played in a total of 86 matches for his country and has won more matches than all other players in the country combined.
