The Ombigaichen is a 6340 m high peak in the Mahalangur Himal in the Khumbu region of the Himalayas .
The Ombigaichen is located 2.3 km east of the Ama Dablam on the ridge that connects the Ama Dablam with the Baruntse . 1.36 km further east rises the nameless Peak 6430 .
The Ombigaichen is listed by the Nepal Mountaineering Association in the "A" category of climbing mountains. The summit has been open for ascents since 2002. A permit is required. In the years 2006-2010 only four groups of mountaineers tried to climb it. Only two ascents of the Ombigaichen have been successful so far.
The Ombigaichen was first climbed by an expedition led by Edmund Hillary . The Briton James Milledge and the Nepalese Sherpa Ang Tshering Sherpa reached the summit on November 18, 1960 via the northwest ridge.
On December 3, 2002, a British expedition led by Victor Saunders was successful. She reached the summit via the south ridge.
