Omelnyk ( Ukrainian Омельник ; Russian Омельник Omelnik ) is a village in the central Ukrainian Kirovohrad Oblast with about 750 inhabitants (2004).

Omelnyk is the administrative center of the eponymous district municipality in the west of Rajon Onufriivka about 10 km southwest of Rajonzentrum Onufriivka and 112 km northeast of the Oblastzentrum Kropywnyzkyj . The town of Oleksandrija is located about 40 km southeast of Omelnyk. The village of Baidakowe ( Байдакове ) with about 110 inhabitants also belongs to the municipality. The M 22 / E 584 trunk road runs northwest of the village .

Personalities

In 1918 the educator, journalist, writer and poet Vasyl Sukhomlynskyj was born in the village .
