Onda is a city in the province of Castellón in the Spanish autonomous region of Valencia . It is located about 20 kilometers west of the provincial capital Castellón de la Plana in the Plana Baja district (about halfway along the road between Castellón and Segorbe ) and on January 1, 2019, had 24,859 residents, mostly Valencian- speaking .

The city of Onda was built around the ruins of an old fort and architecturally still has numerous Arab and Moorish traces, such as B. the Moorish quarter of Almodí . The last Moorish lord of Onda Castle was the Emir Zayyan Ibn Mardanīsch before he seized Valencia in 1229 . From 1233 the region fell to Aragon, 1238 also to Valencia. In Onda, the Romanesque Church of the Holy Blood (Iglesia de la Sangre) from the 13th century and the Baroque Church of the Assumption of Mary (Iglesia de la Asunción) from the 18th century are historically worth seeing.

Onda is a center of azulejo production.
