Ondrej Lenárd

Ondrej Lenárd (born September 9, 1942 in Krompachy ) is a Slovak conductor .

Life

After studying at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava , Ondrej Lenárd began his artistic career in 1962 as a choir master and opera conductor at the Slovak National Theater. From 1984 to 1986 he worked there as chief conductor and from 1997 to 1998 as opera director.

From 1970 Lenárd was chief conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Slovak Radio in Bratislava and from 1993 to 2001 its artistic director. From 1978 on he was a guest conductor with the Japan Shinesei Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. In 1993 he became chief conductor and music director there.

Today Lenárd works with internationally known orchestras such as B. with the Munich Philharmonic and with soloists such as Piero Capuccilli and Peter Dvorský .

He has also conducted at the Vienna State Opera , the Houston Grand Opera , the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), Teatro San Carlo (Naples), the Budapest State Opera and the Státní opera Praha . He has been a guest conductor in Canada, Brazil, the USA and Japan. In 2008 he gave concerts with the Tokyo Philharmonic .

Radio and television

Lenárd has made more than 1000 recordings for radio, including recordings for OPUS, Naxos and Marco Polo. Slovak television has several video recordings of symphonic music with Lenárd.

Prizes and awards

In 1974 he won the Budapest International Competition Prize for Conducting , and in 1998 he received the Štúr Award. In 2002 Lenárd was made an honorary conductor of the Philharmonic.
