Peter Dvorský

Peter Dvorský (born September 25, 1951 in Partizánske , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Dvorský studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava with the singing teacher Ida Černecká , then he worked at the Slovak National Theater . In 1974 he won a prize at the international Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow. In the following years he became internationally known. Starting with the Vienna State Opera (debut in 1976), further appearances at international opera stages followed. In 1977 he made his debut as Alfredo in “ La traviata ” at the New York Metropolitan Opera and a year later at La Scala in Milan .

Among other things, Dvorský was a national artist and state prize winner of the ČSSR and in 1987 was appointed chamber singer of the Vienna State Opera . In 1998 he became UNICEF Ambassador to Slovakia .

Dvorský has directed the opera house in the Slovak city of Košice since 2006 and the International Peter Dvorsky Festival in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou since 1999 . In 2012 he received the CENTROPE Prize for the children's song competition "Slávik Slovenska" (Nightingale of Slovakia), which he internationalized.
