On One Dollar Beach

The name "One-Dollar-Beach" has become common because shortly after East Timor's independence in 2002, a taxi from Dili is said to have cost one US dollar . Other sources state that the locals charged visitors a dollar for parking.

The beach is popular as an excursion destination from the state capital Dili because it is still a lonely destination. The coral reefs in front of the beach are ideal for snorkeling and diving. The beach is part of the wildlife reserve and the Important Bird Area of the Curi . Nevertheless, work began on building an infrastructure here in 2018, now there is, for example, a large pool and parking spaces.
