The BirdLife International has the mountain with the surrounding forest, terraced fields and savannahs to Important Bird Area explained. At least 14 so-called trigger species have so far been detected here. It extends to the coast in the north, the municipality of Dili in the west and the northern Lacló in the south and east and covers an area of 20,086 hectares. The region has been a wildlife sanctuary since 2000.
The hills on the coast rise rapidly, the top of which is the isolated Curi at 1332 m . After that, the land sinks again to below 200 m in the direction of the current of the Northern Laclós . The Curi is the center of the Important Bird Area. Below 400 m , a tree savanna landscape with Eucalyptus alba dominates . Eucalyptus urophylla is mainly found over 400 m . Protected by ravines and on isolated slopes, small tropical forests form in places. The grasslands burn down regularly every one to three years. There are local fields where maize and vegetables are grown. There is marble in the region , the degradation of which would endanger nature and bird life.
Legends
The inhabitants of Ili-Mano refer to the king of the mountain (aran huhun) , who is said to have once lived in the caves of the Curi.
