One Vanderbilt is a super skyscraper under construction in New York City that was first unveiled to the public in October 2013. The project is located in the immediate vicinity of the Grand Central Terminal . The street address is 51 East 42nd Street . The building of the building was officially approved.
description
Current plans envisage that Midtown Manhattan will receive a new height restriction ( rezoning ). All new residential / hotel / office towers can therefore be built up to 30% higher than originally planned. Specifically, this is about increasing the FAR (= floor area ratio - ratio of total building floor area to the area of its zoning lot). This project became necessary because most of the office towers in Midtown are several decades old and therefore no longer meet today's (modern) requirements of large companies. In addition, new, taller skyscrapers are intended to reinforce New York's supremacy as one of the leading financial centers. This was one of the so-called master plans for the city by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg . The plans should come into effect by 2017 at the latest.
A leading project is the redesign of the Grand Central Terminal itself, as well as the area around it. Several visions, ranging from a single very tall tower to two twin towers with a ring platform in between, have already been presented. At the end of 2013, the design by KPF was selected. According to current plans (as of April 2017), the tower (designed as a pure office tower) should measure 427 meters to the top, with the roof height being 393 meters. One Vanderbilt would therefore be one of the tallest buildings in the city, after the One World Trade Center (541 meters), which was completed at the end of 2014, and the Central Park Tower (472 meters, under construction). A total of 67 floors are to be built, whereby it can be assumed that the number of floors, which is small for this height, will change.
The Toronto-Dominion Bank , the second largest bank in Canada , plans to refer One Vanderbilt latest 2020th The demolition of the surrounding buildings and the general renovation of the forecourt has already begun. The building is aiming for LEED Gold certification. In addition, a viewing platform is to be built at a height of 311 meters. Construction officially started at the beginning of January 2017 when concrete was poured into the foundation for the first time. With the current state of affairs (April 2017), completion before 2020 is not expected.
The building is owned by the New York real estate company SL Green , which owns many other high-rise buildings in Manhattan in addition to the One Vanderbilt Building.
