The Oneirodidae are the most species-rich family of deep-sea frogfish (Ceratioidei). They live at great depths in the Atlantic , Pacific and Indian Oceans . Almost nothing is known about the way fish live.

features

All Oneirodidae have a clumsy, laterally compressed body. The skin is bare or, in the case of the females of some species, covered with small protrusions. The eyes are small, the mouth cannot be extended. The Illicium (Angel) has the shape of a small club in most species. The dorsal fin has four to eight fin rays , the anal fin four to seven. Ventral fins are missing. All Oneirodidae are small fish. The females reach sizes of six to 28 centimeters. The males are smaller and sometimes do not even grow an inch long.
