Onirik is an Italian death metal band from Milan , founded in 1997. After it broke up and was inactive for a long time, it has been active again since 2005.

history

The band was formed in 1997, but it broke up and was not reformed until 2005 with new staff. This was initiated by the bassist Michael Kholmann aka Mike C. and the singer Dydacus. The line-up was supplemented by the guitarist Vincenzo Failla aka Vincent Deathcult and the bassist and drummer Giovanni Mantini aka Michael Vanni Hate. In 2007 a first demo was recorded in the Alpha Omega Studios under the direction of Alex Azzali . The demo consists of the three songs Rama , Mortal Lake and Uroboros . In addition, appearances were held inside and outside Italy. In 2008, the split- release Da Vinci Deathcode completed with Septycal Gorge , Fleshgod Apocalypse and Modus Delicti . In 2009, performances were held across Europe before Davide Ricciuti aka Dave Satras joined as the new singer the following year. After several line-up changes, The Spew Records , a sub-label of Punishment 18 Records , released the debut album Ab Initio in 2016 , which was produced by Maurizio Ferrero . In their career, the band has performed with Grave , Obituary , Carnal Forge , Hour of Penance , Master , Fleshgod Apocalypse, Avulsed , Fleshless and Decaying Purity , among others .

style

The Fetus Bin from brutalism.com wrote in his review of Ab Initio that it played aggressive and energetic old-school Death Metal, which contained powerful riffs and the occasional few melodies. The singing consists of growls . Sicktus from lordsofmetal.nl assigned the band to Brutal Death Metal , with the music presenting itself without surprises, but the album at least represents a solid genre work. The sound carrier is mainly suitable for fans of suffocation and morbid angel . Gersi from heavy-metal.de described what was on offer as Death Metal in the American style, whereby Suffocation and Morbid Angel also came to mind. Double bass and blast beats are just as characteristic as the “sawing guitars”. The group does integrate keyboards, but they are never as superficial as with Fleshgod Apocalypse . The compositions are technically demanding and brutal, but they never degenerated into "fiddling" and are more catchy than those of their compatriots Hour of Penance.
