Onno Hoes
Onno Hoes (born June 5, 1961 in Leiden ) is a Dutch politician . He is a member of the VVD , the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. From 2010 to 2015 he was mayor of Maastricht and from 2017 to 2019 provisional mayor of Haarlemmermeer . Before that he was head of department for environmental issues in the administration of the Dutch province of North Brabant .

Onno Hoes was born in Leiden in 1961 but grew up in the southern province of North Brabant. Hoes 'mother was a member of the municipal council of the provincial capital ' s-Hertogenbosch for eight years , his father was also an active member of the VVD and his grandfather was a councilor and deputy mayor of Sint-Michielsgestel .
Since the beginning of the seventies, Hoes has been involved with the VVD, initially in the youth organization (Jongeren Organizatie Vrijheid en Democratie, JOVD). From 1986 to 1992 he was chairman of the VVD in 's-Hertogenbosch and then became a member of the provincial parliament ( Provinciale Staten ) of North Brabant. From 2001 to 2010 he was a member of the Gedeputeerde Staten provincial government . He was initially responsible for the area of economic development and international relations, and later he took over the environmental department.
On December 5, 2007, Hoes announced that he wanted to run as the successor to VVD chairman Jan van Zanen , who resigned on May 1, 2008 . A vote among the party members on March 31, 2008 showed that not Hoes, but Ivo Opstelten was elected party chairman with two thirds of the 15,730 votes. Hoes got almost 5000 votes.
On September 16, 2010, the Maastricht City Council proposed Hoes as the new Mayor of Maastricht. On October 1st, he was appointed new mayor by the Dutch Council of Ministers with effect from November 1st. As Mayor of Maastricht, he made a name for himself as a fan of the local football club MVV Maastricht .
Since March 11, 2010, Hoes has been chairman of the Centrum Informatie en Documentatie over Israel (CIDI), a Dutch foundation founded in 1974 by the Jewish community. The independent organization aims to work for the peace and security of the Jewish people around the world. She feels connected to the State of Israel.
Private
Hoes has been married to the Dutch showmaster and theater producer Albert Verlinde since June 29, 2001 and lives in Maastricht. Onno is the brother of Isa Hoes . Hoe's father was Catholic while his mother was Jewish ; According to his own statements, Hoes identified himself privately with Judaism even before chairing the CIDI.
