Onopordum majorii is a species of donkey thistle ( Onopordum ) within the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Onopordum majorii is a two-year-old hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 50 to 150 centimeters. The species is irregularly thin gray-tomentose. The stem is winged with thorns up to 15 millimeters long. The leaves are deeply divided. The flowers are purple-violet in color. The outer and middle cladding sheets have up to 3 millimeters long, strong mandrel teeth.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

Onopordum majorii occurs in the Aegean region. In Crete, the species grows in open ruderal sites at altitudes from 0 to 1150 meters.
