J. Oor was a piano factory in Brussels .

history

Jean-Baptiste Oor (born February 2, 1846 in Brussels; † November 10, 1940 there ) was a Belgian piano maker who founded his own company in 1871 at 30 Rue d'Arenberg in Brussels. This produced pianos until 1935. Although he has received praise and some prizes at international exhibitions, his pianos are considered average.

His son Lucien Oor ( January 2, 1877 in Brussels; † 1949 there ) founded his own company in 1907 with a much higher quality. He had completed an apprenticeship at Steinway & Sons in New York and produced very good musical instruments in his workshops at 23 Rue Glibert in Laeken . Foreign competition and an expensive management style led to the company going out during the economic crisis of 1929.
