Opatów ( German Opatow ) is a village in the southernmost tip of the Polish Greater Poland Voivodeship , in the powiat Kępiński , in the Gmina Łęka Opatowska . The place is at the intersection between the national road 11 ( droga krajowa 11 ) and the voivodship road 450 ( droga wojewódzka 450 ).
history
Opatów was founded around 1184. The foundation of the village was confirmed in a document in 1239 by Henry the Pious . In the course of the second partition of Poland in 1793, Opatów fell to Prussia and was incorporated into the new province of South Prussia .
From 1807 to 1815 Opatów belonged to the Duchy of Warsaw before it became Prussian again after the Congress of Vienna , this time as part of the Province of Poznan . After the First World War and the establishment of the Second Polish Republic , the municipality became Polish again and was incorporated into the Poznan Voivodeship . In 1934 Opatów became the administrative seat of the newly established rural municipality Opatów.
During the Second World War , Opatów was part of the Reichsgau Wartheland .
After 1945, the old rural community in the Poznan Voivodeship was restored. In 1973 it went up in the newly founded Gmina Łęka Opatowska, which was incorporated into the new Kalisz Voivodeship in 1975 . Finally, since the territorial reform of 1999, Opatów has been part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
