The orchid Magnificent Ragwurz ( Ophrys splendida Gölz & HRReinhard, Syn .: Ophrys arachnitiformis subsp. Splendida (Gölz & HRReinhard) H.Baumann & R.Lorenz) is a species of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) and thus the orchid family.
features
This herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of between 10 and 25 cm. The inflorescence includes two to eight flowers . The upright sepals are whitish to pinkish-purple, they are between 10.5 and 14.5 mm long and between 5.5 and 8 mm wide. The lateral petals are conspicuously two-tone. These bare and often wavy petals are white to pink and have a yellow-green or orange-red border. The lip is dark brown with a narrow yellow border and has short hair on the rear edge.
Location and distribution area
One finds this plant kind in light forests, garrigues and lean lawn with dry to moderately fresh, calcareous soils at a height of up to 600 meters above sea level. The magnificent Ragwurz can be found in the south of France from the Rhone to the Cannes area .

The splendid Ragwurz flowers from April to May. Andrena squalida was observed as a pollinator .
