The Opornyy Point ( Russian Мыс Опорный Mys Oporny , German , 'support cape ' ) is an ice spike on the west side of the Lasarew Ice Shelf off the Princess Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 25 km north of Leningradskiy Island .
Participants in a Soviet Antarctic expedition mapped it in 1959 and named it because the tip of the ice rests on the seabed. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Russian designation in 1971 in an adapted partial translation into English.
