Opuntia orbiculata is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet orbiculata means '(Latin orbiculatus) circular, circular'.

description

Opuntia orbiculata grows shrubby and forms wide groups with heights of up to 1 meter. The green to blue-green, circular to obovate or occasionally wedge-shaped shoot sections are up to 15 centimeters long and have awl leaf rudiments 2 to 3 millimeters long. The small areoles are covered with wool and sometimes with some hair . The up to six needle-like, sometimes twisted, yellow to reddish thorns are up to 4 centimeters long.

The yellow, reddish tinged flowers reach a diameter of up to 10 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia orbiculata is common in the Mexican state of Coahuila .

The first description by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer was published in 1837.
