Orø is a Danish island in the Isefjord , which cuts the north-west of the main Danish island of Zealand . The island is about 15 km² and has 951 inhabitants (January 1, 2020), who are spread over four villages: Bybjerg, Brønde, Gamløse and Næsby. There are also 1,400 holiday homes.

Orø forms its own parish ( Danish : Sogn ) Orø Sogn , which belonged to Harde Horns Herred in Frederiksborg Amt until April 1, 1933 , and was then added to Tuse Herred in what was then Holbæk Amt , together with a few small, uninhabited islands . From 1970 it belonged to the Holbæk municipality in what was then Vestsjællands Amt , which was merged into the "new" Holbæk municipality in the Sjælland region with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 .

Orø belongs to the Association of Danish Small Islands .

In the north of the island is the 1.6 meter high, 1.9 meter wide and 3.5 meter long Orøsten, a boulder made of gneiss weighing around 20 tons.
