The Karlsruhe Oratorio Choir at the Christ Church is one of the most traditional choirs in Karlsruhe . He devotes himself to the whole range of classical and modern choral music. In addition to the oratorical literature , the choir also studies demanding a cappella works and helps organize festive cantata services at the Christ Church.

The connection to the Christ Church in Karlsruhe as the region's church music center has proven itself , as has the cooperation with the Karlsruhe Chamber Philharmonic and the Karlsruhe Baroque Orchestra.

history

Today's choir is the result of the merger of two large choirs with a national reputation.

The choir of the Christ Church was built around 1900 on the newly built Christ Church. The leaders of the choir were August Hoffmeister, Ludwig Baumann, 1909 Hans Vogel, 1924 Hermann Knierer, 1934 Theodor Munz, 1941 Ruth Schellenberg, 1954 Klaus Martin Ziegler , 1960 Hans Joachim Haarbeck. In 1962 a record was made with Klaus Martin Ziegler ( psalm concert by HW Zimmermann ).

The Oratorienchor Karlsruhe eV was founded in 1951 by Erich Werner and directed until 1970. The choir made numerous concert tours through Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy. Concerts were carried out in this way under various well-known conductors, such as János Ferencsik , Charles Bruck or Volker Wangenheim . It emerged concert recordings for LP and Broadcasting, the 9th Symphony of Beethoven with Igor Markevitch , the "Orchester des Concerts Lamoureux" and Hilde Güden (soprano), or Rossini's William Tell with the Badische Staatskapelle . The composer Wolfgang Rihm said of his influence by the choir: I started singing in the Karlsruhe oratorio choir at the age of 12 and got to know almost the entire oratorio repertoire from Mozart to Verdi. It was one of the best schools, also for composing ...

The first cooperation between the two choirs arose due to the joint leadership by Hans Joachim Haarbeck since 1970. From 1982 to 2003 the choirs took part in the “Karlsruhe Music Days”, a series of events organized by the city of Karlsruhe , the churches, the University of Music and the University of Karlsruhe .

From 1999 to 2017 Carsten Wiebusch headed the choirs, which finally merged in 2002 and have had the current name since 2008.

From autumn 2018, Cantor Peter Gortner will be in charge of the traditional choir.

profile

The repertoire includes the great oratorios by Johann Sebastian Bach , Joseph Haydn and Johannes Brahms . Under Carsten Wiebusch, the choir took part in unusual programs, e.g. B. 2006 at the "Karlsruhe Composers Night" to Max Reger . Outstanding performances in recent years have included rarely performed choral orchestral works, such as A Child of Our Time by Michael Tippett , Christ by Franz Liszt , the Trois Petites Liturgies by Olivier Messiaen , Golgotha by Frank Martin , the Dies Irae from the Latin Requiem by Max Reger or the psalms by Lili Boulanger .
