The Oregon ash ( Fraxinus latifolia ) is a deciduous tree art from the genus of ash trees in the family of Oleaceae . Their natural range is the west of North America.

description

The Oregon ash is a medium-sized deciduous tree that reaches a height of 15 to 25 meters. The branches are stiff and more or less hairy. The terminal buds are brown, pointed and usually thinly brownish hairy. The leaves are 20 to 35 centimeters long, composed and consist of five to seven, rarely nine, seated or almost seated leaflets . The leaflets are 7 to 14 centimeters long, broadly elliptical to ovate or obovate, pointed with a rounded or broadly wedge-shaped base. The upper side of the leaf is glabrous or hairy, the underside is hairy. The leaf margin has entire to indistinct serrations. The flowers are dioecious . They are in lateral, bald panicles . Petals are missing. The flowers appear with the leaves from May to June. The fruits are 3 to 4 centimeters long, round, winged nuts , the edge of which more or less runs down to the base.

Distribution and ecology

The range of the Oregon ash ranges from British Columbia in Canada over the northwest of the United States to California. There it thrives in floodplains and on banks on moderately dry, fresh to moist, slightly acidic to neutral, sandy soils in sunny locations. It loves warmth and is usually frost hardy .

The Oregon ash ( Fraxinus latifolia ) is a species from the genus of ash ( Fraxinus ) from the olive family (Oleaceae). It is the section Melioides assigned.
