The main organ of the monastery church St. Verena in Rot an der Rot , completed in 1793 , is one of four three-manual large organs built by Johann Nepomuk Holzhey . The smaller choir organ from 1787 is also made by Holzhey. The St. Verena monastery church was rebuilt and equipped from 1777 to 1786, during the tenure of Abbots Mauritius Moritz and Willebold Held.

Main organ

Building history

Soon after the completion of the church, Holzhey first built a choir organ in 1787 and soon afterwards the main organ. The case was completed in 1789, the entire organ probably not until 1793. Several work on the organ in the 19th and 20th centuries changed it, but not as much as elsewhere.

During the 19th and 20th centuries the organ was repaired, rebuilt and changed several times. In its basic structure, the instrument remained largely untouched; compared to the other three large organs of Holzhey, the identity of the monastery church organ has been preserved most of the time.

Between 1986 and 1989 the instrument was extensively restored by the organ builders Klais (Bonn) and Bier (Giengen); the (existing) original arrangement of the organ remained untouched. Wind chests , action , inlaid console , parts of the bellows and the pipes remained largely true to the original.

Disposition since 1793

The main organ has 36 registers (a total of 58 rows of pipes) on three manual works and a pedal ( slider chests ). The registers of the Echowerk (3rd manual) are divided into bass and treble side. The play wind is generated by four wedge bellows (one of which is original). The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The original game table stands free with a view of the altar. The arrangement of the organ is as follows:

Building history

In 1785, under Abbot Willebold Held, Holzhey received the order for the smaller choir organ, which he completed in 1787. This originally two-manual organ with a free-standing console in the middle of the choir was completely rebuilt in 1964/65 after it had been reduced in size in 1835. The choir organ has fourteen registers on a manual and pedal.

Organists

Since 2000: Franz Raml (* 1964 in Straubing ) works as titular organist on the historical organ. He gives concerts as an organist and harpsichordist. He is also the artistic director of the Hassler Consort and the German Mozart Orchestra .
