The oriental sweetlip ( Plectorhinchus vittatus ) lives in the Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa to Japan and Samoa .
Appearance
Young fish of the oriental sweetlip have a dark brown basic color with large cream-colored spots surrounded by yellow. When they are about 15 centimeters in length, they change color. The adult fish are of a silvery basic color with dark vertical stripes. The front part of the head and the fins are yellow. Dorsal, anal and pelvic fins are dotted black. They become 55 centimeters long.
behavior
Young fish are solitary animals that live hidden among corals. The adult fish live in small groups or large schools. During the day they usually stay under table corals or other overhangs and at night they look for food to eat benthic invertebrates .
