features
Plectorhinchus species are 28.5 to 105 cm long and have a high-backed shape with a beefy head and a large to medium-sized mouth surrounded by fleshy, thick lips. The dorsal fin is continuous, but clearly divided by an indentation into a hard and a soft ray section. On the underside of the tip of the lower lip there are two sensory pores , behind it, directly on the edge of the lip, four more. A pit on the underside of the lower jaw is missing. The last two characteristics delimit the genus from Pomadasys and Brachydeuterus .
