Origami Germany

Origami Germany Association for the Promotion of Paper Folding e. V. is a non-profit association based in Freising , which works to make origami known and to promote it. It was founded in 1989 by Paulo Mulatinho and today has around 760 members.

Tasks and activities

The association has set itself the goal of imparting knowledge about the art of paper folding in the educational , artistic , therapeutic and mathematical fields. Since 1989 it has organized international public annual meetings, regional conventions, meetings and exhibitions. He creates the club magazine of the Falter , arranges courses in educational institutions and promotes the international exchange of ideas. International guests and guests of honor are invited to all annual meetings . For example, in 2009 were Robert Lang (USA), 2012 Paolo Bascetta (Italy), 2013 Tomoko Fuse (Japan), 2016 Sébastien Limet (France), Beth Johnson (USA), 2018 Maria Sinayskaya (South Africa) and Francesco Mancini (Italy) present as guests of honor.

Organizational form

The association is represented by thirty regional groups in all German federal states that organize regional meetings, get involved in educational institutions and do public relations work. Some of the groups have their own websites or blogs . Most of the meetings are also open to the general public. The more well-known groups include the kestrels in Bönen , who meet in a former winding tower . The group regularly conducts flying competitions as a summer vacation program and organizes a stand at Creativa in Dortmund. In Mannheim the members meet in a train station café. The group published the book Origami On The Go .

Publications

The magazine der Falter , which has been published since 1989, includes reports on origami conferences and meetings, both within Germany and internationally. The magazine also contributes to the international exchange on origami with interviews . Also publishes the butterfly folding instructions.

Members of the association published numerous books with folding instructions on various topics such as: B. for folding flowers, figures from fairy tales and fables, geometric shapes, paper planes , children's games , boxes, stars, animals and Christmas decorations. Other topics deal with the basic materials used, such as B. book pages or banknotes. In addition, free folding instructions are often made available on the respective websites of the authors.

Exhibitions

The association regularly supports the organization of exhibitions throughout Germany. In 2017, the Mathematikum in Giessen exhibited some exhibits and also offered hands-on stations. A similar exhibition could be seen in thephenomenta in Flensburg in early 2018 . In October / November 2018 origami exhibitions took place in Mölln (in the Möllner Museum) and in Rostock (on the occasion of the Rostock Bonsai Days).
