Orliwka ( Ukrainian Орлівка , Russian Орловка Orlowka ) is a village in Sumy Oblast in northern Ukraine with about 1000 inhabitants (2004).
Orliwka is located on the left bank of the 34 km long river Swissa ( Ukrainian Свіса , river system Desna ) in the center of the Rajon Jampil 8 km east of the Rajon center Jampil . To the east, the village borders on the municipality of the urban-type Swessa settlement .
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1647, is the administrative center of the district council of the same name , which also includes the villages of Rschane ( Ржане ⊙ ) with about 50 inhabitants and Shevchenkoe ( Шевченкове ⊙ ) with about 90 inhabitants.
Personalities
The Ukrainian folk artist and Taras Shevchenko awardee Leonid Towstucha ( Леонід Самійлович Товстуха ) was born in the village on October 17, 1930, and died in the village on March 7, 2010.
