geography

The municipality of Orsoy-Land was north of downtown Rheinberg in the corner formed by the Rhine and the Moersbach .

history

The area around the city of Orsoy originally belonged to the Duchy of Kleve . During the French period at the beginning of the 19th century, the Mairie Orsoy was set up in the canton of Rheinberg in the Krefeld arrondissement in the Rur department , stretching on the left bank of the Rhine from the town of Orsoy in the south to the mouth of the Moersbach in the north. After the Rhineland fell to Prussia in 1815, Mairie Orsoy became the mayor's office of Orsoy, which first belonged to the Rheinberg district , then from 1823 to the Geldern district and from 1857 to the Moers district. The northern tip of the mayor's office was ecclesiastically not to Orsoy, but to the nearby town of Rheinberg. This area was located on the right bank of the Rhine until the river was shifted in the 17th century.

When the city of Orsoy received the Rhenish City Code on May 23, 1859 , the northern part of the mayor's office became the mayor's office and rural community Orsoy-Land, which was administered in personal union with the mayor's office of Orsoy-Stadt. Since there were only a few individual farms in the rural community, the population was very small.

The VEBA bought from 1968 to 1972 practically the entire municipality, together with the then existing five yards on to build on it a large petrochemical plant. Most of the farms were demolished, so that the former municipal area is largely uninhabited today.

The municipality of Orsoy-Land was dissolved on April 1, 1972 and incorporated into the city of Rheinberg. The town of Orsoy was also incorporated into the town of Rheinberg by the Lower Rhine Act on January 1, 1975. The area of Orsoy-Land is still an official district today .

In the 1980s, one was in the former municipality ventilation shaft of the coal mine Walsum drilled , which was in 2008 again shut down then filled. In addition, a large sewage treatment plant was built in the north of the district. A large part of the former municipal area belongs to the nature reserve Hasenfeld and Rheinvorland between Eversael and Ossenberg . and to the Orsoyer Rheinbogen and Eversael nature reserve .
