Osbornedale State Park is a state park in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the parishes of Ansonia and Derby . It also includes the historic Osbornedale , a museum, the Kellogg Environmental Center and other areas that are part of the State's resident curator program .

The 142 hectare (350 acre) area belonged to the Osborne family who previously operated several metalworking and textile factories in the Naugatuck Valley Area. In 1956 it was transferred to the State of Connecticut by Frances Osborne Kellogg upon her death.

history

In the 17th century it was initially trappers and fur traders who visited the area at Housatonic. Later silver was dug to a certain extent , and mineral water was also bottled after the American Revolutionary War . At the beginning of the 20th century, Frances Osborne Kellogg and her husband, Waldo Kellogg, acquired the farms that comprise today's park area. They ran two successful farms for Osborndale Holstein cattle and dairy farming.

geology

The geology of the park is quite varied. The hilly landscape mainly includes gneiss , basalt and metamorphic rocks. The P borders directly on the Housatonic River in the southeast and extends north into the hills of the Naugatuck Valley . Picketts Pond and two other small reservoirs are in the park.

Freetime activities

There are opportunities for hiking, fishing and ice skating in the park. A special " Warbler " trail is advertised.
