Robert Eduard Oscar Bittrich (born August 2, 1853 in Koenigsberg , † September 18, 1941 there ) was a German photographer .

Life

Oscar Bittrich worked in Königsberg and later in Wehlau . There he had his studio at Kirchensteig 2.

His first marriage was to Anna Justine Wilhelmine Driver. On October 8, 1879, he became engaged to Marie Katharina Schröder, whom he married in 1880. In 1888 the photographer Oscar Bittrich is listed in the Königsberg address book at Münzstrasse 8/9.

In the collection of the former provincial monuments office in Königsberg there is at least one picture that goes back to Bittrich. It shows a street with a shoemaker's workshop in Wehlau.

This collection was initiated by Adolf Boetticher and Fritz Heitmann , who from 1890 to 1896 had the monuments of the province of East Prussia recorded in photographs and as measurement drawings. An inventory catalog in nine volumes was created from 1891 to 1899. In 1893, the Provincial Monuments Office, which from 1903 had a provincial archive for the preservation of monuments, was founded. The first conservator was Boetticher, his successor Richard Dethlefsen expanded the archive, which largely survived the Second World War . It was given to the State Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw . Some of the photographic material also ended up in the former Allenstein and was kept there in the State Archives. In the years 2001 to 2004 the photographs of the former provincial monuments office in Königsberg were digitally recorded. Pictures from these holdings, including Bittrich's Schuhmacherbild, were shown in 2005 in the exhibition The Photographer is Here! shown, whose focus was on the representation of the residents of East Prussia.

“Bittrich - Wehlau” is named as the author of various photographs in Bötticher's publication Die Bau- und Kunstdenkmäler der Provinz Ostpreußen. Booklet VII. Königsberg , Königsberg 1897 stated. Likewise grabbed Richard Armstedt in his History of the Royal residence and capital city of Königsberg , which in 1899 appeared on recordings Bittrichs back. At this point in time, Bittrich was already based in Wehlau.

Bittrich documented, among other things, the medieval frescoes in the St. Katharinen Church in Arnau , which were uncovered between 1908 and 1912. Two photos by Bittrich were published in Nasz Gdańsk in 2012 .
