Live and act

In 1934 Oscar Moore began as a professional musician with his older brother, Johnny Moore . In 1937 he joined the Nat King Cole Trio, whose sound he played a decisive role until 1949. Moore also released records under his own name, such as the Oscar Moore Trio and Fabulous Guitar albums . With his brother Jimmy he founded the formation The Three Blazers in Los Angeles , which existed until the 1950s, but their career was not very successful. Otherwise Oscar Moore later worked in the pop field.

He also appeared on records by Lionel Hampton , Art Tatum (1941), the Capitol Jazzmen and Lester Young . In 1965 he recorded another Nat King Cole tribute album.

His younger colleague Kenny Burrell commented on the importance of the guitarist, who was far underestimated in the shadow of Charlie Christian : Oscar Moore was quite revolutionary with his harmonic conception, especially in his chord structures; he played beautifully and has certainly inspired a number of people besides me . Barney Kessel said that Moore practically created the role of jazz guitarist in small-cast bands.
