Oscar Sauer , also Oskar Sauer , (born December 5, 1856 in Berlin ; † April 3, 1918 there ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Sauer began his acting career in Osnabrück in 1874 . After several engagements in the provinces, theater director Oscar Blumenthal brought him to the Lessing Theater in Berlin in 1890 . In 1897 he went to Otto Brahm at the Deutsches Theater . When Brahm was replaced by Max Reinhardt in 1905 , Sauer followed him to the Lessing Theater.

In the Brahms Ensemble, Sauer was considered one of the leading actors in pieces of realism . His roles included Gregers Werle in Die Wildente , Brack in Hedda Gabler , Siebenhaar in Gerhart Hauptmanns Fuhrmann Henschel , Wehrhahn in Der Biberpelz , Pastor Manders in Gespenster and the title role in the world premiere of Gerhart Hauptmann's drama Michael Kramer in 1900.

Sauer's acting was highly valued by critics as diverse as Alfred Kerr and Herbert Ihering . He is buried in the south-west cemetery Stahnsdorf in the Nathanael block, garden block 1, garden point 20.
