history

The company was founded in 1949 by master toolmaker Oskar Frech in Schorndorf as a manufacturer of die-cast and plastic injection molds. In 1959 the first hot chamber die casting machine was built. In 1965, Wolfgang Frech, the company's founder's son, took over management of the company. In 1966 Frech launched the world's first serial magnesium hot chamber die casting machine. With this technology, housings for mobile phones and notebooks, for example, are produced in large numbers today. In 1967 the first cold chamber die casting machine was built by Oskar Frech. In order to increase sales, the first subsidiary abroad, Frech France, was founded in 1976. In 1985 the founder Oskar Frech died. In 1997 Wolfgang Frech gave up the management. Spesima was taken over in 1997 and Robamat in 1998 in order to increase the competence around die casting machines. In 1999 the company presented the world's first fully electric die casting machine at GIFA. MELTEC was founded in 2000 in order to have the holding and melting furnace division in the group. Ioannis Ioannidis has been managing the fortunes of Frech Holding since 2004. On December 1, 2007, Oskar Frech took over the die casting technology division from its former competitor, Müller Weingarten . At the same time, the former Schuler Hydrap site in Plüderhausen was acquired, which was converted into a new production site. Wolfgang Frech, the son of the company founder, passed away on October 29, 2014 after a short illness in Schorndorf. During his lifetime he planned and built up the succession plan, so that the continuity of the family-owned company is guaranteed, and he was also the second Schorndorf citizen to receive a medal of honor from the city. Ioannis Ioannidis, who has been in charge of the management since 2004, was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Business Medal in November 2016 .

Today the company is the world's leading supplier of hot and cold chamber die casting machines.
