The Oskar Frech SeeBad is a public leisure pool in Schorndorf , which consists of a combination of an indoor pool , an outdoor pool with a bathing lake and a sauna area .

The indoor swimming pool, which opened on March 11, 2008, replaces the old Schorndorf indoor swimming pool from 1964. The construction costs of the new indoor swimming pool amounted to EUR 15 million.

Two years after the opening of the indoor pool, the first construction defects became apparent, about which a legal dispute that has continued to this day has arisen.

The Ziegeleisee , formerly a clay pit , is fed by spring and groundwater. It was already accessible as an outdoor pool before the indoor pool was built. After the construction of the indoor pool, the next step was to renovate and integrate the lake, against which there were public protests beforehand. The renovation of the outdoor pool cost EUR 2.5 million. The outdoor pool with bathing lake was reopened in 2011. It is the only natural swimming pool in the Stuttgart region. The bathing lake is the only lake in the Stuttgart region that has to be paid for.

In 2011 the sauna area was also expanded.

The Oskar Frech SeeBad consists of:

  • Indoor pool with 980 m² total water area:
    • 25-meter swimmer pool with 6 swimming lanes and an integrated diving area with a 3-meter platform and a 1-meter board
    • Teaching pool with steps to get used to the water
    • Adventure pool with bubble loungers, massage jets, floor jets and flood showers
    • Paddling pool with bubbler, stream, hand pump and splash animal
    • Black Hole slide with stair tower and flat run (length approx. 80 m)

    • Natural lake with 8,500 m² of water (3,100 m² of which is swimming area), 100 m swimming lane, separated toddler area with 1,000 m² of sandy beach, toddler slide, children's play area with mud, jumping rocks with 1-meter and 3-meter platforms, wide-wave slide
    • Heated pool for non-swimmers
    • 10,000 m² lying area

    • Steam bath with whirlpool , natural lake swimming area, outdoor pool with bubble beds, massage jets

The bath is operated by the municipal utility of the city of Schorndorf. The indoor pool and sauna area are open all year round, the outdoor pool with bathing lake is only open in the summer.

Visitor numbers

The indoor pool is frequented by over 300,000 visitors and the outdoor pool by 90,000 visitors annually. This makes the Oskar Frech SeeBad the most popular pool in the Rems-Murr district.

The sauna area was visited by 34,000 guests in the first nine months, 59,000 in 2009 and 77,000 in 2010. It is now frequented by over 100,000 visitors annually.

Awards

  • In 2012, the pool was awarded 1st place in the Public Value Award of the German Society for Bathing in the category of indoor, combination and leisure pools.

Others

The Oskar Frech group acquired the naming rights to the bathroom for EUR 100,000.

The Ziegeleisee is a regular training facility for extreme swimmer Bruno Dobelmann .
