Oskar Kleinsasser (born December 1, 1929 in Kirchdorf an der Krems , † March 10, 2001 in Marburg an der Lahn ) was an ENT doctor .

Oskar Kleinsasser studied medicine in Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate in 1954. He first worked for two years at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute of the University of Innsbruck under FD Lang, then at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Cologne with Klaus-Joachim Zülch and at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Cologne under Wilhelm Tönnis . His manual contribution “Pathology of the Tumors of the Brain Skull” in the Manual of Neurosurgery by H. Olivecrona and W. Tönnis (1960) comes from this time.

In 1958 he accepted a position as an assistant doctor at the University ENT Clinic in Cologne at LB Seiferth and in 1961 became a specialist in ear, nose and throat medicine . In the following year, he completed his habilitation on the subject of "Critical and morphological contributions to the early diagnosis of larynx cancer". In 1968 he was appointed APL professor in Cologne and in 1969 scientific advisor and professor. In 1973 he accepted the chair for ear, nose and throat medicine at the University of Marburg as the successor to J. Berendes. Until his retirement in 1997 he headed the clinic and was managing director of the Center for ENT Medicine at the University of Marburg.

Kleinsasser published a large number of histological and morphological studies on the changes in the larynx mucosa and their relationship to the development of cancer. At the same time, he developed special laryngoscopes and microsurgical instruments that enabled the endoscopic examination and treatment of changes in the larynx under the microscope without the larynx having to be opened from the outside. This microlaryngoscopy and microsurgery of the larynx, introduced by Kleinsasser and still associated with his name, represented an internationally recognized advance and is now standard in every ENT clinic.

In addition to an extensive work on tumors of the larynx and hypopharynx , his book on the technology and typical findings of microlaryngoscopy and endolaryngeal microsurgery is one of the widespread standard works in the surgical literature in ear, nose and throat medicine. The high level of awareness of the laryngological publications makes the numerous publications and manual contributions by Kleinsasser on other topics, such as salivary gland , paranasal sinus and skull base tumors , take a back seat .
