Oskar Kurpat
Oskar Kurpat (born March 23, 1894 in Dresden ; † March 12, 1970 ibid) was a German journalist . He was editor-in-chief of the magazine “ Zeit im Bild ”.
Life
Kurpat, draftsman and retoucher became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany in 1912 . He was one of the most active union officials and city council in Dresden . The fascists threw Kurpat into dungeon several times.
After 1945, alongside Otto Buchwitz, he was instrumental in founding the Socialist Unity Party of Germany in Saxony . From January 1946 he set up the editorial team for the illustrated magazine “Zeit im Bild” in Dresden with Hans Schrecker from the KPD, and was editor-in-chief on equal terms. In April 1946 he was with Hans Schrecker a delegate at the unification party conference in Berlin .
He was later chairman of the Chemnitz branch of the German-Polish Society for Peace and Good Neighborhood and then until 1956 secretary of the Society for Cultural Relations with Abroad in Berlin. After working for the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden , he last lived as a veteran in Dresden. Kurpat died shortly before the age of 76.
